Metcalf Named Dean
W.A. Franke College of Forestry and Conservation Names First Female Dean
Dr. Libby Metcalf has been named Dean of the W.A. Franke College of Forestry and Conservation, becoming the first woman to lead the college in its 112-year history. Dr. Metcalf also serves as Director of the Montana Forest and Conservation Experiment Station and as Franke Professor of Forestry and Conservation.
Since joining the University of Montana in 2010, she has become a highly respected leader and scholar in the field of human dimensions of natural resource management.
Dr. Metcalf was appointed dean amid the UM Foundation and Franke College Treasure Montana campaign, which seeks to raise $20 million in private giving to build Montana’s state of-the-art hub for environmental and conservation research, education and collaboration.
In addition to Treasure Montana, donor giving supports the Franke College of Forestry and Conservation in a variety of ways, including student scholarships and fellowships at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as the College’s impact fund, which can be used at the Dean’s discretion to help with critical needs as they arise.
“Your generosity uplifts Franke College as we train our students to become the next generation of environmental science experts, researchers, conservationists and more,” Dr. Metcalf said. “Philanthropic support from donors like you is at the heart of our work.”
