Breaking Barriers, One Town at a Time
State of Mind brings its mental health mission to new communities across Montana
The University of Montana’s State of Mind theater and public dialogue tour hit the road again during fall 2025, expanding its mission of normalizing conversations about mental and behavioral health to new communities across the state.
Launched to statewide acclaim in 2024, State of Mind is a partnership between UM’s Co-Lab for Civic Imagination and Montana Repertory Theatre. Blending performance with community workshops, the tour seeks to inspire deep listening, confront stigmas and connect audiences with local mental and behavioral health resources.
The 2025 tour was made possible by continued support from the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation and the Headwaters Foundation.
This latest round of generous funding is enabling State of Mind to deepen its impact. In addition to visiting nearly 25 new Montana communities in late 2025 and early 2026, it will pilot a new program in at least two rural Montana communities and spend more time on the ground to co-create performances and activities for local youth.
“The new resources from the Headwaters Foundation and the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation are transformative for us,” said project creator and Co-Lab for Civic Imagination Director Michael Rohd. “They let us move closer to our goal of reaching every Montana county and evolving in ways that reflect what communities need.”
