As Montana's preeminent trainer of healthcare professionals, the College of Health prepares students for 55 different career tracks throughout Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Public Health, Social Work, Health & Human Performance and Speech Language & Hearing Sciences. The College emphasizes interprofessional education and collaborative practice, training students in each of these disciplines to work together to deliver exceptional healthcare to their fellow Montanans.

Points of Pride

• The majority of programs offered by the College of Health are housed in the Skaggs Building, which was renovated in 1999 thanks to a generous gift from Sam Skaggs, the late founder of PayLess Drug Stores. The latest addition to the building was completed in 2007, which allowed for more laboratories and classrooms for Montana’s next generation of healthcare professionals.
• The College of Health prepares students for over 50 different career tracks, including Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Public Health, Social Work, Health & Human Performance and Speech & Hearing Sciences, along with a Pre-Medical Advising Program. The College also plans to introduce a new Occupational Therapy program in 2021.
• Students take advantage of a variety of opportunities to gain practical, hands-on experience while working toward their degrees. Physical Therapy students learn firsthand in the Physical Therapy Clinic and the New Directions Wellness Center; Pharmacy students work in the IPHARM non-dispensing pharmacy; and Athletic Training students support UM’s athletic programs.
• All health-focused programs at the University of Montana fall under the umbrella of UM Health & Medicine, which forms vital partnerships throughout the state in order to serve Montana’s growing healthcare needs. Since healthcare providers practice in increasingly interprofessional settings, UMHM is organized so that students can be trained in a hands-on, interdisciplinary environment and gain valuable experience while working toward their degree.

UM Foundation Support

• During fiscal year 2018, students in the College received more than $172,000 in scholarships, with an average scholarship amount of $2,100. ­
• The UMHM Innovation & Investment Fund was established in 2018 with $1 million in seed funding from the Madrona Hill Foundation. The fund will support the creation of new professional healthcare training programs for Montana’s next generation of healthcare providers.
• The Neural Injury Center performs groundbreaking research on traumatic brain injury and offers screenings and support to over 700 veterans who work and study on the University of Montana campus. Since its inception, the NIC has received over $300,000 in private support, along with grants from the NFL and General Electric.
